We’re going with our teens to San diego for spring break for a week. Trying to figure out where to stay. We’ll be going to the SD zoo, safari, sea world, USS, balboa park and will rent a car, cause want to check out 1-2 universities while there.
Looked initially at mission bay, and now wonder if it maybe better to rent an Airbnb or hotel on mission beach, seeing availability near Belmont park. Appreciate any advice on either of these locations or recommendations for other locations and any other tips. |
| We stayed at Mission beach a few years ago. It was a bit too Wildwood (NJ) for my tastes. Next time we would stay in Pacific beach or La Jolla. |
| We always stay at Estancia |
| Coronado |
| Last time I was in San Diego I was walking along the PB boardwalk while my DD did her Brandy Melville (ugh!!) thing and happened upon the pacific terrace hotel - it looked awesome! I thought if we didn’t always stay with family it would be a really cool place to stay. A bit off the main drag so you are not fully in the thick of PB - which can get a little grungy. Lots to walk to in area. |

If you want near a beach, somewhere in La Jolla, La Jolla Shores, or Windansea area, maybe Pacific Beach.
If you don't care about a beach maybe neighborhoods around Balboa Park like Mission Hills, Hillcrest, North Park. If you like easy scenic hikes, go to Torrey Pines State Reserve one day. |
| We were just in San Diego area. We stayed in La Jolla and enjoyed it. Took day trip to mission beach and it’s a mixed bag. Some very nice places to stay and some “Ocean City” type places. Glad we didn’t stay in Mission Beach as that wasn’t our vibe. |

Thanks all. Will check the recommendations.
What about Hyatt mission bay? I get a rate at Costco, but not sure if we’d be stuck going driving everywhere even for dinner. Any areas that are walkable? So we could grab dinner in evening without having yo drive |
Everything walkable is mostly Gas Lamp district/downtown. Otherwise SD is really spread out. |
The central neighborhoods (Mission Hills, North Park, etc) are all walkable. |
If you stay in PB (Pacific Beach) tons of restaurants, bars, stores in walking distance (from the beach). |
| And Hyatt Mission Bay is kind of meh location. Nothing else around there - so you would need to drive everywhere for dinner etc. |
Thank you! Will look for hotels / airbnb in locations mentioned upthread. |
| Google “pacific terrace hotel” in PB |
This looks amazing! Thank you pp. |
