MCPS seeking waiver yet again!!!

Anonymous
Added instruction on March 20th, June 18th. The rest they will seek waiver. Why not Feb 16th and 17th? Why always short change the kids MCPS? We pay your salary Taylor, would you accept not getting your goods after you pay for them? You do one meaningless study after another to justify your fat salary, but fail to teach the kids. Disgraceful.

Be realistic. Feb 16th and 17th are next week. Teachers have made vacation plans. Parents have made vacation plans. How will the schools find enough subs to cover the teachers who are out? How will Taylor respond to parents who are yelling that he is ruining their vacation plans?

PG County announced Feb 16th will be instruction day. Nobody yelled to my knowledge. It was a normal thing to do.

You all love to blame the teachers but the reality is none of you understand the massive amount of work that would need to be done to open schools on such short notice. Its a heck of a lot more than just getting kids and teachers in buildings. Anyone who has ever had any sort of managerial role understands all the logistical and behind the scenes decisions that would go into it

This is not true. Watch their BOE meeting they held this Thursday. The PG BOE explicitly stated they will NOT have school on Feb 16th.

I’d be fine with the 16th, but the 17th is unfair.

Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) in Maryland will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026, for Presidents' Day. Although this date was considered a potential make-up day, the board confirmed it remains a holiday, with an additional make-up day added to the end of the year instead.

They absolutely need to seek a waiver.

It makes sense, just like MCPS decision not to have Feb. 16th as a make up day.

Get a waiver and be done with it. So you really think adding days will make your child any less gifted and talented? Any less SPED identified?

What’s wrong with the 20th and 18th?

Who cares?

And they’ll have to seek a waiver next year too. They put 2 of the 3 makeup days for snow in October and November.

I was the one who insisted that MCPS will get a waiver and there will be no make up days.. JUne 19th is going to be off (juneteenth), so it makes no sense to add more fluff days after june 19th just to say they added make up days..
