AP English language tutors

Anonymous
DD is a sophomore at an independent school that does not offer APs. She wants to do the AP English language exam in May but is struggling to figure out how to self study. I would love any recommendations for tutors who might be able to help her. TIA

If she wants to take an AP test because she’s ready she should be able to self study. There’s all kinds of information online. Plus she is taking English class so I’d guess she’s learning the same things in class that will be on the exam.

English teacher here.

The AP Lang exam has three essays, and she needs to actually practice these. Even if she is in a good, rigorous English class, she needs to know the specific form of the essays and practice them prior to the exam.

However, she CAN do that at home if she's a strong student. I always recommend AlbertIO as the site kids who are self-taught should be using. Here's a link, specifically to their presentation of one of the three essay types on the AP Lang exam: https://www.albert.io/blog/acing-the-ap-english-language-and-composition-synthesis-essay/

OP, have her sign up for an account at AlbertIO and ensure she prints materials and does practice for the three essay types. There's also a multiple choice/MCQ section, and she can familiarize herself with the types of question and approach for that too.

Thank you! This is very helpful. She is a good English student but I am not sure what they cover in 10th grade and how pertinent it is to the AP Language test. It is great to have a starting point so will get her signed up.
