Does your HS count scholarship money like this?

Was at a senior meeting recently and the college counselor encouraged parents to remind students to enter in any money students won via independent scholarships as well as from merit money offered from each school they got into into some form. She emphasized to enter it in even if they aren’t going to attend/redeem that merit scholarship because they won’t attend all the schools. .

The college counselor proudly declared last year’s total and said that this year we will beat last year’s number.

I feel like this number isn’t accurate because students only attend one college, so the other scholarships awarded directly from the schools they didn’t attend don’t really “count” as scholarships if they weren’t actually redeemed.

Do the other HS’s do this?

I mean its not a new thing. Every year the national media always runs a story about some teenager in Atlanta who racked up 4.8 million dollars in scholarships because they applied to 147 universities

Yes, and it's ridiculous.

Our school collects this but says they do it to identify which schools give merit and which scholarships are worth applying to. That said, I have no idea how they distribute this information to students, so I’m not sure how useful it is.
