Recommend nice waterfront resort/hotel on East Coast (Marriott preferred)...

We are going to be visiting colleges in Virginia, NY, and Boston this summer. What's a nice resort on the waterfront that we can go to a few days? Kids, who are older teens, like to go in the water. Don't want anything too fancy or stuffy, but willing to splurge if it's nice to an accessible beach where you can get in the water and there are beach-based activities....

All those places are better off for more city based trips, not beach based vacations.

If you’re visiting WM or CNU in VA, there are several Marriott branded hotels (but like Fairfield inn) in Va beach about 20-30 minutes away. In Charlottesville, I like the Autograph or the courtyard on the corner.

In NYC, there are over 50 bonvoy properties in the manhattan area. Depends on your price range, dates and what else you want to see in NYC.

Boston, just stay at the Boston marriott long wharf or one of the boutique brands like autograph.

Separately, if you want to go to the beach, apart from your college visits, go to a Marriott resort as another trip. Consider Ritz Carlton Amelia Island, and Marriott vacation world in Hilton head, or Marco island or a quick trip to Mexico or the Caribbean for a long weekend.

VA Beach has several beach front hotels in the Marriott Portfolio.

We liked the Va Beach Marriott resort. It's in a new area, I believe.
