| What is Vanderbilt like |
| My child is a freshman there and loves it! Mid size, strong academics, fun sports, social, good weather, etc. |
| More southern than UVA. Less so than Alabama. |
|
Very impressive.
It’s a fun school with very smart, well adjusted kids. Great infrastructure, including nice dorms and a lovely campus. Nashville is a cool town with lots to do. Invest some time going through the curriculum. That’s what got our attention. Lots of emphasis on immersion and interdisciplinary study. |
| My daughter is a sophomore and it’s been impressive in every way and she’s really happy. |
|
Location is excellent. It’s IN the city, & an easy bus ride to the lively part of town where many bars & restaurants with great live music are.
There are also some bars & restaurants adjacent to the campus. Campus is nice—fairly compact. The only drawback is the university hospital is in the middle of the campus. I would hope you eventually get used to the frequent sound of ambulance sirens. |
| Still the south, think girls in pearls and guys in ties. After 4 years, they can't wait to get out, but definitely enjoy their time while there. |
That’s not been our experience at all |
| How would you compare to UVA? Is Vanderbilt worth the extra money if in-state for UVA? |
| Red state |
Deep blue city. |
No one cares. |
Not in my book! |
Our daughters care rather a lot |
|
I think it is a great place with a lot to offer and we will strongly consider it. But the people I know with kids there are really insufferable in promoting the school and how great it is. It reminds me of the Northeastern crowd. Much worse than Duke people.
For instance, I'm guessing a Vandy parent started this thread so lots of people would hopefully say nice things about their kid's school. |
