I am going to a wedding in Los Angeles in early June. Will be at the wedding site for two nights, but woulddrive like to spend another two or three nights somewhere scenic and nice within a 2 to 3 hour drive. Will have to fly back out from LAX so need to return.
I don't know California at all. Any good suggestions for places to visit? National Parks, beaches, coastal towns that are nice to visit?? Would love to go up north, but I think that is another trips. Have already seen San Diego.
I know this a wide open query. Just looking for a few good suggestions to get started with... THank you! |

Head north up the Coastal Highway and stay in Santa Barbara for a couple of nights. Stop by the Getty Villa in Malibu on the way there or on the way back.
In the alternative, drive two hours to Palm Springs and stay in a nice boutique hotel. Spend a day at Joshua Tree. |
I like the first idea a lot. I would like the second if the trip was between Nov-April, but not in June. Will be scorching hot by then during the day. OP where in LA is the wedding? |
| Laguna Beach. |

I’m going soon and a friend of mine told me to try to go to the Pasadena flea market. It’s held monthly. Palace Verdes Santa Monica. Santa Barbara.. tereanea resort for a drink
They said it was fun to get tickets to the voice. I don’t know if they’re gonna be filming while you’re there, but you can get a ticket to another studio audience if that’s your thing. |
Yes! Thanks. OP here. I DID think of Palm Springs but am afraid too hot in JUne? |
Wedding is in Beverly Hills... |

There is so much to do in LA! Why not just make the most of it. Agree that Palm Springs is way too hot in June--my husband and I made that mistake years ago (though we were impressed by the misting water that was spraying all over town!)

I lived in CA for 40years, go back every year to visit family.
I would do up the coast to Santa Barbara, then up to Avila Beach. There's a great spa there. https://sycamoresprings.com/ If you have time, you can drive up to Paso Robles (through San Luis O) which has some wineries. |
Ojai is also nice, or maybe Ventura |
|
If you can afford the hotels, Santa Barbara for sure.
Go see the courthouse. It's beautiful. Eat good Mexican. Etc. |
Yes, 97 to 105. I go in Decembet |
Re driving - just be prepared for the worst traffic and driving you have ever seen. I grew up there and refuse now to fly into LAX and drive around. |
| +1 to Santa Barbara. Lots of winery options too in Santa Rita Hills. Check out the little town of Solvang. |
| Another +1 to the Central Coast. But if you want less driving, Ojai is s great, and while there take a cruise or kayak tour of the Channel Islands (out of Ventura) |
