| Is there a scale I can find somewhere to understand MAP results for a fourth grader? Is MAP only an FCPS limited exam or is it more widespread in the nation like iReady? |

| Usually the results are explained in the MAP report. You can also google/chatGPT the results. It is widespread like iReady. |

I second what others said above. We don't live in Northern VA (where I'm from) and my older child (10) always takes the MAP test in reading and math several times a year, while my younger child (7) has begun doing map testing in math, but does the VALLSS for reading.
You have to look at their "growth" and then their overall results. If your school prints it like ours does, it will show their historical scores along a graph and show the average results too. My older child is considered "gifted" in math and receives gifted services, so their math scores in 4th grade until now have ranged from 236-246 (most recent). That's really high and not typical, and my 2nd grader is also good in math (but not gifted - just a great strength!) and got a 174 this fall and 184 this winter and he is slightly advanced and gets "excellent". |

| We pay more attention to the Percentile numbers than to the raw numbers. And as PP noted, we track trends in the Percentile over time. |

Also, MAP tests are used by some private schools, some religious schools, and some public schools.
Aside from the basic numbers, more detailed breakdowns on which section of literacy (or math) the student did well/poorly on can be obtained by your school -- if they choose to get them. |
