Painting trim

I want to update our mudroom, and I’m thinking wallpaper + painting the built ins (currently they are white). I can’t decide whether to also paint the white trim to match the built ins, and if that means also painting the door— basically, it’s kind of question of where to stop.

Is colored trim going to look dated soon? I know it has been very popular for the last few years.

Also— if you have wallpaper in a mud room, how is it holding up? Do I need to do a high traffic vinyl/commercial level one or will normal wallpaper be ok?

What you’re describing seems like a small job. Do what you like as you can always do it on over.

In our house, we keep all the trim (including doors) in the entire house the same color as it works for us.

Imo it depends on how this space connects to the others around it.

It’s very separate- like a weird little hallway/antechamber between the garage and rest of the house. Definitely no weird transition from one trim color to another

Sure then go for it! It's only paint.

Wallpaper is going to look more dated (and dirty faster in a mudroom) than painted trim.
