Myrtle Beach

My 15 and 12 year old really want to go to Myrtle Beach. DH and I are not big beach people so this has never appealed to us, but we decided to make it happen this summer by tacking a few days onto a trip to see relatives in Charlotte.

This is likely the one and only trip to Myrtle. Knowing that this trip is all about the kids, where should we stay?

First, don't stay in Myrtle proper. Look at Surfside or Garden City. There are not a lot of big, hotels or chains. Most places to stay are second homes where you rent through property management companies.

There are places to stay in Myrtle. But they are probably already booked.

Stay way North.

It’s about the teenagers. Stay at one of the hotels on the beach and where all the activities are.

Great for retirees. Did you see that the trip is for the teenagers?

Go to North Myrtle Beach and then drive to MB itself for activities.

Ignore the Myrtle hate. It’s always on here.

Yes, it’s tacky. Yes, it’s full of overpriced chain restaurants. It’s fun.

Stay in North Myrtle Beach or the Grande Dunes area. The Marriott is great. It’s older so the rooms are small.

Tons to do. A million mini golf places, go karts, water parks, amusements. Grab one or two of those beach magazines when yiu get there.

You’ll have fun. Just ignore the hate it gets on this board.

I think some poster try to appear way more educated and wealthy than they are. They think their negative opinions of middle class family places will show this. It only shows ignorance.

I can’t remember where we stayed, we went when the kids were younger, but we had an ocean view, a living room, deck, bathroom. It was on Ocean Boulevard. You would only need one room.

Myrtle Beach is fun. I grew up in Surfside. Definitely do not stay there or Garden City. If your teens decide to go back to SC when they are in their 70s, they can stay at those places. Marriott Grand Dunes is lovely and a bit removed from the kitsch. Homewood Suites is also good and more in the center of things. Just do not do a rental, Airbnb or Vrbo. You’ll likely be in a cluster of other rentals, and there will be heavier parties than you’ll find at more family oriented hotels. IMO

This. Lots of trailers. Murrell's Inlet might be a good place to go. If you stay in Myrtle proper then expect it to be harley riding, poor/middle class Southerners.
