| Is the DCB Dropoff and Pickup process as bad as it seems from various threads? Does parking local and walking up help with this at all? Any other tips if you have to drive to and from the school? |
| Can you try the commute/drop-off before the lottery? My kids don’t attend DCB, but I drive in front of DCB/Riggs Rd around 7:30am and the traffic is already very bad. |
+1. Try the commute before and after school when you would normally travel there and decide if it’s ok for you. I think people have different tolerance levels for traffic/ commuting so it is hard to say if it’s worth it for your family. It also depends on where you are coming from. DCB is in the opposite direction of my work so I never listed it. |
| I have since moved, but lived in the neighborhood for six years, ad even having to drive past each morning was insane. |
| The metro is right there at Fort Totten. It’s so convenient! |
| Yes, I do think it is truly that bad for people who drive. But as others said, the metro is close. Also, we have a lot of neighbors who attend DCB and they bike! This is a perfect use case for an E - bike. |
It isn’t convenient if you do not live near a metro. |
| I think it’s important to think about what you are willing to do in a commute-bike, metro, bus, etc. Try it out and see if it’s feasible for your family. |
| We go to DCB. We typically park on surrounding streets and walk in or we use an e-bike. I also do the drop off line and park at fort totten if the weather is bad. I wouldn’t want to drive every day but the commute hasn’t been as bad as we expected - the morning is the worst. It all depends where you are coming from. |
| It really depends on where you live and where you’re driving from. We live in Brightwood/Takoma, park on the street near school. Drive takes 12-15 mins tops and we have very little traffic. The drop off line is if we chose to do the Kiss and Ride is efficient and well-organized. There is a caregiver parking lot for those who prefer that option. The pick up line is for 3+ kids (carpoolers only). We have had positive commuting experiences only. |
It is not feasible for lots of family and they have to deal with the terrible drop off/pick up in that area. One parent told me at least she only has to deal with it 3 times a week since she carpools with another family. |
I’m assuming if you are doing drop off and pick up, you are going to have to add an extra 15 minutes to that commute. I honestly don’t see how you are able to pull out onto N Capitol St during rush hour am or pm and can imagine the long line of cars backed up and waiting behind. |
I’m looking at the map and it is not right there. What is it a 10-15 minute walk from there to school? |
It's closer than most schools are to a metro. Much closer. |
Question hasn’t been answered. So it’s more than 10-15 minutes walk from metro then. |
