College handshake portal and regional job postings

My sophomore is having trouble finding internships in a different region from where the school is located (east coast). Freshman's handshake (T10) shows many internships in that region that Soph (East Coast) can't access.

How can they share or access each other's handshake portal? These internships aren't posted on company websites, and you apply directly from Handshake with an upload of your resume on file. There has to be a way, right?

Both are T20 schools, so I can't imagine the employer is really filtering by school tier, but maybe they are?

It's weird because the East Coast sophomore can't even find out about these internships in another region. Has appt with the career services office on Friday, but thought I'd ask this smart group.
