National Museum of the Marine Corps

Anonymous
I want to plan a visit this spring to the National Museum of the Marine Corps and would like suggestions on what else we could do in the area. We've been to the DC sites and wouldn't want to go there on this trip, so I'm looking for things closer to the museum location, if anything.

We'll do at least one overnight at a Marriott/Bonvoy property so suggestions for those nearby would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

Downtown Fredericksburg and the battlefield is kinda a nice way to spend a day

What are you interested in? I agree Fredericksburg is nice. If you are interested in Revolutionary-era history, I'd check out the https://virginiahistory.org/virginia-250-passport sites. I've only been to Kenmore recently but know from others that Ferry Farm is nice. Fredericksburg also has a cute downtown and many of the sites are there and have combined ticket options. Then battlefield someone mentioned is easy to get to also.

If you are into military but not Marines-specific, there's also https://www.thenmusa.org/ in the other direction, but you don't have to go all the way to DC.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I appreciate the tips.

To the question of what we are interested in: military history especially WWII, any kind of museum, natural and historic sites including non-military. Cute downtowns are great too. So the answers are right on track.

If you visit the battlefield, check out Chatham Manor. It’s free and interesting.

And it’s not super close, but the new Army museum in Lorton is also nice.

Have you been to Udvar-Hazy and seen the Enola Gay? 45 minutes away from the Marine Corps museum without traffic, but realistically more if you go anywhere near rush hours.
