I think OP meant a non-bro ortho knee specialist. I first read this as she is seeking a non-orthopedist knee specialist who is a bro (meaning jock, as many orthos famously are).

"ortho bro" = arrogant orthopedist of any gender who talks but doesn't listen, decides what's best for you without discussing options in any detail, writes off older, especially female patients ("you're in good shape for your age"), and views every injury in relationship to the damage they did playing college/pick-up ball ("I wish I had your knees")

'non-ortho bro" = orthopedist of any gender/athletic background who listens, takes the time to provide ample information, is interested in patient experience and goals, etc.

I work in the surgery department of a large teaching hospital. I would say the bro to lady ratio is probably 8 to 2. I’m writing here to caution you that the females are basically Lady bro former athletes in most cases. The former lax bro male surgeons have nothing on the ultra tough former soccer diva female ortho surgeons. IME. My sample size is ~200

I just had this conversation with the parents of my son’s friend. Bernstein is the classic ortho bro. pretty much what 12:01 said. They went with Rankin at Summit (same practice) and really like him. I used to like Bobrow at that practice but IIRC he doesn’t operate anymore, which is how I was introduced to Bernstein.

OMG thank you for explaining and not being an ahole like that PP.

I'm JUST realizing now that when I had concerns about my knee my Bro Doc did a squat and said for him every stair is like rice crispies. He totally negated my feelings by inserting his own experience.
