| If no running water (can't use bathroom) due to water main break, can they force you to come to work? Think CVS, 7-11, Starbucks...etc. Seems inhumane and against laws. |
|
I would think they would make arrangements to use the facilities at a neighboring business.
Not sure how you operate a Starbucks without water. |
| it is not legal operate without water if it is a food retail establishment. Call DOH and tip them off anonymously |
| CVS and 7-11 could operate without water, though 7-11 would not be able to serve coffee and similar. |
pretty sure some 7-11s are food retail establishments because they sell all kinds of drinks and breakfast sammies, hotdogs, etc. The concern is employees not washing hands |
| OP, what about bringing your own water in a jug, flask or camelback? |
The good thing about this suggestion is after you drink the water you can then pee in said container so it performs a dual function. Worst case you then have another emergency supply of fluids. |
| If there is a restroom with running water nearby and easily accessible, it should be ok. If not, then you should not be forced to work. The owners should work if they want the location open. |
that's not the requirement for an establishment that serves food but whatever |
How are workers supposed to relieve themselves and wash hands after? |
|
Generally no, OSHA violation. Some can if they provide portable restrooms and drinking water, particularly essential services.
|
| Yeah. No establishment that serves food can operate without running water. |
| No it's against the law. Call OSHA and report it asap. |
| OP, are there businesses or offices adjacent where you could pop over to use the facilities? Please be candid. |
OP said retail store. |
