They are plenty just mostly at smaller clubs or third or fourth teams.

ECNL podcast today they mentioned the US club/ECNL pyramid and MLSN/GA pyramid and that’s clubs would be part of one or the other eventually.

Which falls in line with a comment on here about clubs having to switch from GA/RL or ECNL/RL to GA.

What will happen to clubs who have both? mLSn and ECNL

They are vastly outnumbered on the lower tiered teams as well. The current ecosystem U13 and up is mostly Jan-July players.

I know it is impossible, but would love to see what the #s really are like at top level clubs. My own experience (as a coach) at a large club of ECRL level (3 teams per age group on the boys side), our first teams U12+ are anywhere from 0 to 35% fall birthdays with a club average about 18% (3 players on a team of 16). Second teams have a bit more at the younger ages but it leans out a lot U16 and above.

I think the 1st team fall bdays will stick around but I think the 2nd team ones def look for greener pastures next spring. The club is already trying to butter them up a bit to convince them to stay.

WWYD?
Q4 2013 daughter.

Option 1 Offered a spot on the 2nd team to play GA-aspire. Will probably move to top team (GA) the following year with age group change

Option 2. Waiting for offer. Probably on 3rd team of a very large and strong club. Following year might make second team which is RL

Option 3- offered a spot on another clubs second team. That would play DPL. Top team is doing aspire which is stronger than the 2nd team of club 1. Following year would do top team of other age group which is aspire

Who has the best coaches? What is easiest for your family logistically (the soccer season is long and full of weekly practices)? What team did your kid like best when she went to the practices (do that if not already)? ... The answers to these questions, less league, team ranking, matter most.

Regardless of numbers, if you have a SeptQ4 kid, you'll have more opportunity/flexibility now to go for a higher league/stronger club. You have possible leverage and you should use it if that's what you and your kid want.

If there is no ability to play as SY teams in 25/26, then Q4s are still going to the the smallest on the field - and there is no “leverage.” But certainly in 26/27, when Q4s are generally the biggest and fastest, they will be recruited. It’s just a one year timing issue of course.

I understand the thinking. A 12 year old has maybe 1 or 2 more years before things become more solidified.

RAE is about accrued benefits of being a chosen class.

Maybe true. But weird that you’d know the birth month of some 60+ kids.

I think it varies and they tend more to be on the 2nd teams. If they didn't exist, you wouldn't have heard all the complaining about trapped teams.

Over half of our RL team are July and after.
U15. 1/3 4Q.
None of NL team are 4Q.
That’s all the proof I need for RAE. The delta starts at very young ages.

I used to think the biggest RAE advantage was for u9 and under and now I see the most pronounced differences at u13-15. There is no way that kids "catch up" by u18.

Kids born earlier in the cycle enjoy a huge advante for the entirety of the process.

Testosterone in boys is a game changer and the players with the most first are bigger faster more agressive that the ones without. They also get more fast twitch muscle sooner.
