OP here. I read the WSJ article on Apple News so I can't gift access to it. But here is a summary of the major points of the article:
*A highly classified whistleblower complaint involving Tulsi Gabbard was filed in May. *The complaint is so sensitive it is reportedly locked in a safe; officials say releasing it could seriously harm national security. *The whistleblower’s lawyer says Gabbard’s office has delayed and blocked sharing the complaint with Congress. *Gabbard’s office denies this and says the complaint is baseless and politically motivated. *Congress learned of the complaint only in November and still has not received it months later. *The delay in sending the complaint to Congress is highly unusual and may be without precedent. The inspector general found some allegations against Gabbard not credible but could not assess others. *The complaint also involves another federal agency and may raise executive-privilege issues involving the White House. *Even the whistleblower’s lawyer has not been allowed to see the complaint due to its classification. *The situation is occurring amid broader concerns about weakened oversight after inspectors general were fired and leadership changes were made within the oversight office. |
| without precedent = illegal |
| …and this is who is down in Georgia collecting ballots. |
| Ah, I need to update the thread of things Republicans would scream about if it happened under a Democratic president but shrug when it's under Trump |
|
There was this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Tower_wiretapping_allegations On March 4, 2017, Donald Trump wrote a series of posts on his Twitter account that falsely accused former President Barack Obama's administration of wiretapping his "wires" at Trump Tower late in the 2016 presidential campaign The DOJ declared in a September 1, 2017, court filing that "both the FBI and NSD confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets In a 2019 call in to Sean Hannity's show, Trump said that his original allegation of "wires tapped" was not literal, and that he really meant: "surveillance, spying you can sort of say whatever you want". Trump also said that his allegations were made "just on a little bit of a hunch and a little bit of wisdom maybe", and that he thought his allegations were "pretty insignificant" when he made them.[11] |
| Kind of silly to focus on the safe. Obviously everything in the DNI is going to be called national security sensitive. It's the standard way the government covers up internal corruption. |
Related to his Trump Tower Moscow project? https://medium.com/@petergrant_14485/dark-triad-russian-intelligence-eurasian-organized-crime-and-the-trump-tower-moscow-project-306ca6b346b8 |
The point is that the complaint was filed in May of last year and 8 months later the administration is still stonewalling and trying to decide how to handle the case and whether or not Congress should even be allowed to see information about the case. While whistleblower cases no doubt have occurred before involving the national intelligence agencies, it's the amount of time that has passed without dealing with the case that is unprecedented. And the comment about the safe suggests that whatever is in the complaint is a BFD and potentially hugely explosive. "The lengthy delay on sending the complaint to Congress is without known precedent, according to watchdog experts and former intelligence officials. The inspector general is generally required to assess whether the complaint is credible within two weeks of receiving it, and share it with lawmakers within another week if it determines it is credible." |
why does the administration get to decide?! |
| She is a Russian operative. |
She seems to be a part of a well-represented community in the current administration. |
It emphasizes this was in fact about intelligence matters. As opposed to human resource matters (Tulsi throwing mandatory sex parties in Conference Room B), embezzlement, steering contracts for mundane supplies, or any of dozens of other misbehaviors that would get her in hot water that relate in no way to intelligence matters. |
| The next administration is going to be very busy dealing with how compromised the IC community has become under Trump. So many traitors in the Republican Party today. |
