Shoe Rec for Elderly Dad with Limited Mobility

Anonymous
I'm looking for some recommendations for shoes for my father, 80 yo. He recently got out of rehab for a broken ankle. His mobility is pretty limited, he gets around with a walker, and his lower legs were on the weak side even before the broken ankle. He wears shoes all day and only takes them off to sleep.

I'm looking for something comfortable and safe for him, and not difficult to get on or off so there's one less thing my mom has to help him with. He's got wide feet and is about a size 11-12. If anyone has shoes that worked well for a parent, please let me know...we asked his PT person at the rehab and he said Skechers were good but there are so many variations. Thanks.

Kiziks are good. Specifically the Lima.

DH has been wearing these slip-on Merrells after back surgery. He has a pair for in the house and another for walking around outside.

Podiatrist seemed to like Hokas. Mine are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had. The ones I have don’t have laces that tie, but rather a stretchy band that you pull tight.

Probably more on the expensive side but https://www.wideshoes.com/

My stepfather with multiple foot issues orders from there.

Skechers hands free. Easy to slip on and off but reasonable support. Some come in wide and extra wide. DSW has a few styles.

I just got my dad skechers slip ons. You may need to order a few pairs and return. Id order on amazon prime to make things easier to return.

My husband has weak ankles and orthotics. He likes Allbirds as a brand. His shoes are laceup.

Allbirds has slip-ons.

They are mostly fabric tops with foam soles.

Here is a slip-on model.

With shoes, I find ordering from Amazon and DSW a few pairs at a time to be the fastest way to find shoes. If I order 3 pairs, 1 will usually work.

Cole-Haan also sells very popular slightly dressy leather-topped sneakers.

OP here, thank you for the recommendations, I really appreciate it. I do plan on ordering a few so he can try different ones.

My DH has MS and these are the shoes that he uses because it's difficult for him to manage shoes with shoelaces.
