Digging out car at IAD

Anonymous
Does anybody know whether is some service that will dig out cars left in economy parking lot at Dulles? Friends left their car and are due back Monday.

oh, that's a nightmare I hadn't thought of. When parking in a IAD garage, there is a posted phone number to call if you have a mechanical problem. The number is probably on the IAD website. Dead battery, that type of thing. Maybe that phone number would connect the person to some options.

Maybe try Task Rabbit?

Might be cheaper to take an Uber home.

And wait for the melt. Unless you want to buy a pickax and go back to break the ice.

Honestly I would do this, then go deal with it. Right now it looks like it will be above freezing on Tuesday afternoon. Might be easier to go back then and try to dig it out.

Omg that's crazy! Try some landscaping companies - I think their guys do snow stuff in the winter.

Thanks all. Friend managed to get through to the parking people at Dulles who said they would send someone to help if needed. It will definitely be needed.

I remember coming home one night to a car at Dulles with several inches of snow. Luckily it was the fluffy kind, we could open the car doors and get the scraper we had left in the car. It made for a cold, uncomfortable digging out, because we were tired after a trans-Atlantic flight, but we managed.

I hope the airport people are able to help out your friend, OP.

I just saw a newsclip on this— people were using whatever random tools they had in their car to try and get out. Was kind of funny

Garden spade and/or a hammer are adequate for this stuff. Mostly just need to dislodge it. Helped someone yesterday with my garden spade, took about 15 minutes for the dislodging part, then another 10 or so with a regular snow.shovel to fully move everything out of the way.

One more reason to pay extra and park in the garage.

Exactly. In the past I've done it because it's closer to the terminal, but this is an even better reason.

We parked in a garage and paid less - knew about the storm and planned ahead (including paying someone to shovel at our home).

HA! Sorry there is no way any of the IAD lot employees are standing around to dig out cars for free. That's not in their job description. Friend should hire someone to meet them at their car.
