Anyone know where it went? The old ones were removed months ago from the counseling page and the APEX one also was removed from the APEX page. There are PDF symbols where they were before.

APEX is being discontinued after this year, so that page is null and void. Current APEX 9 students will continue with the program but APEX is not accepting new students for next year. |
The school profile for Apex still needs to be updated and sent with college apps for next three years. |
| Ask your guidance counselor for a copy of the most recent profile, or Ms Evans in College/Career |
I feel like such a request will be met with some annoyance so was trying to avoid. Plus other people are trying to find it, too. Anyone know why there would be pdf symbols instead of the documents? Does the school think they posted the profiles and it didn’t work or is it from the removal? |

Here's an older version of the page from last year when the links were still there:

| Have they sent out notice about the apex program to parents? I have 2 kids in the program currently and I don’t think we’ve officially been notified that it is sunsetting. |
The ending of the APEX program has been handled very poorly. It’s as off they’re trying to hide it to avoid rightfully disgruntled families. It was mentioned at the January 15 meeting for incoming 9th grade parents but the impact was not fully discussed or followed with any sort of announcement in writing or on the website that I’ve seen. They’re passing it off as if the AP Capstone is replacing it, but that’s just a diploma designation for taking two particular AP courses. It’s currently offered at WJ and at most MCPS schools. The loss of APEX is a huge blow to the WJ community and it’s going unnoticed. |
You won’t annoy them. They like to help. |
That hasn’t been my experience over the past six years but this is my youngest so maybe things are changing. |
The major loss is the actually Enriched English curriculum in 9th and 10th and the cohorted experience in 9th. The 9th Grade bio has already been dumbed down, and AP classes are pretty standard. |
I don't know who your counselor is, but if you're is bothered by such a simple request ask the head of the department. We have had very positive interactions with WJ staff. |
It would be nice if WJ would continue to offer the enriched “Apex” English class in 9th grade. Apparently AP Seminar will be the advanced English 10 class. But nothing for 9 except the fake “Honors” class. |
| I don’t think MCPS needs a special AP-level English class for 9th graders. Honors should be fine for most of the top roughly 1/3 of students (more or less depending on school), and “on-level” needs to be available for the large number of students who don’t have the preparation for high school ELA work. |
That’s dumb. AP seminar is a perfectly fine class but it’s not an advanced English class. The English classes in 6th—10th grade are just an embarrassment, really. |
