Do you save public school report cards?

Anonymous
My mother saved all of mine and they had short handwritten comments from the teachers. Even as I got older they provided insight into what I was like as a kid.

But DC’s DCPS report cards are so impersonal and just a series of numbers. Do you save these, whether at DCPS or elsewhere?

Nope. I already have too much papers stored as it is.

I randomly have my second grade report card. I have some of the kids report cards and they do have comments.

I saved DCPS report cards electronically from Aspen as a short term record in case we change schools or leave town. Will purge them when kids get older. Zero sentimental value in saving them, unlike the ones from my childhood with personal comments.

Our school gives feedback quarterly with personalized info. It is all saved in Aspen. I do not print them out, but do write a letter to my kid on their birthday summarizing their year and add excerpts from the report cards.

Why is this just about public school? Also, we get emails and have parent teacher conferences so we know how our kid is doing in school.

Because public schools usually don't have personal comments from teachers, only letters corresponding to pre-printed generic comments. Ex: on quoted poster's report card, "E&L, E posters likes to participate. L, poster lacks reading comprehension skills."

I have a file with electronic report cards. We have moved locations a bit, so I keep them all as proof of attendance.

But no, most public school report cards are just electronic with grades in them--no handwritten comments like the olden days.

Our DCPS includes personalized notes from the teacher. lol at trying to make this a public vs private school thing. Is this how you justify tuition, by saying that younger personalized notes?

I dont have the energy or creativity to create scrapbooks, but do have a large bin where I throw things from each kid that I choose to save, and it includes report cards.

Same. I keep the final one each year in case they’re ever curious to go back and look.

I save an electronic copy for our records but trash the printed ones. There's never any kind of comments just grades.

Save the final report of each year of school for record keeping.
