Partner cannot find a job

Laid off 2 years ago - SVP HR. Started own business to fill gap and done consulting but trying to get back into workplace. They are Networking, reaching out, willing to relocate, etc. Has strong employers on CV. Well liked. Has had a lot of interviews, but always passed over for somebody more junior/younger. Any advice?

OP, no advice beyond dropping 10 years of experience off the bottom and removing education dates. But this may not help someone at the SVP level in the slightest.

My friend’s DH is in a similar position- been out of work for two years now and has a consulting gig, which is not good enough.

Keep trying!

Same here. I hope that pushback against h1b will at least kick them out of HR where they are gatekeeping for their fellow citizens. Resumes do not even get presented to hiring managers

This is big salary level, I take it? $250K plus?

Has candidate spoken with grad school contacts (school and friends)?

Has candidate tried to become a thought leader/commentator in the field?

Sometimes old hands reinvent themselves by getting involved with startups. What companies used to market to the candidate? Try joining the ecosystem around VPs of HR.

I really like the Hebba Youssef "I Hate it Here" blog/podcast. Maybe see if there is a story to pitch to her?

I'm sorry. There are whole households like this in DMV (ask me how I know.)

Call all universities/high school attended. Take few years off resume and consider dying hair/getting rid of facial hair if man for virtual or in person interview to present younger. Stay strong. It will be back to an employees' and not employers' market but will be stretch. Can he/you find other source of side income/invest/sell on ebay or you find higher-paying?

Can try being an adjunct professor. It hardly pays but adds to resume.

Dye hair. Lose weight. He needs to look young for one thing.

Take a lower paying job.
