Our Lady of Mercy School (Potomac, MD)

Catholic family considering this school for our two elementary school aged children. Is it relatively easy to acclimate to the school as a new family? Is the community welcoming? Are the students generally kind and well-behaved? Thank you in advance for any current insights you can share!

Yes, yes and yes. This is our second year at the school. We’ve found the kids and community welcoming and kind. We have not experienced nor heard of any disciplinary issues. The principal has worked at the school for 30+ years. Most of that time as a teacher and then as the head of school for the last 5-6 (I believe - I do not recall the exact date). I would encourage you to do a tour. I found that gave us a good sense of the school before kids went there. The teachers are wonderful. We’ve been very pleased.

Mercy is full of country club families from Potomac and Bethesda. If you belong to a club you will fit right in. Otherwise prepare to be ostracized.

Thanks for these insights. We are not wealthy and do not belong to a country club, but do not mind that crowd as long as the community overall is welcoming and kind.

That is not true of Mercy anymore. Those families have moved on to Mater Dei, Landon, Stone Ridge, & Holy Child.

Hi OP, we are in the same boat (in the under $1M home club) and are considering Catholic elementaries in that area as we are possible moving over the summer. I will add this one to our list to look into, do you have any others you are considering? We’re flexible on location, have two that will be going into 2nd grade!
