Sorry for the lack of info on this one, but this forum isn’t very active. Berkeley Parents should be the natural place to go, but that is woefully underutilized.
In any case, my kid is zoned for Oakland Tech, but he went private. Many of our neighbors (roughly 30%) did send their kids to Tech. Pros: 1) free, 2) easier admission to UC, 3) some smart kids and competent teachers. Cons: 1) many kids from broken homes (i.e. - crime), 2) distractions (drugs/parties), and 3) inconsistent teaching. In fairness, I think you get #2 and #3 at any school to some degree but much less so at College Prep, Head Royce, and O’Dowd. |
