What is your favorite to eat? To gift? From where in DC area or national store do you buy?

Teuscher champagne truffles are my favorite. Can't buy locally unfortunately but there are online options.

Locally, I love Laderach.

I love Neuhaus. Also not ashamed to say I also love Leonidas, even though it is supposed to be considered Hersheys quality in Belgium .

My husband had to take depositions on February 14th in West Virginia years ago. One good thing that came out of it was that he discovered Holl’s chocolates. Founder was a chocolatier in Switzerland before moving to WV. Years later, I still can expect a box for Valentine’s Day.

Didn't look it up, do you know why the founder moved to WV of all places?

Dandelion Chocolate
Socola Chocolatier
Christopher Elbow

Those three are the best that currently exist. Michael Mischner was also great, but that company has closed.

West Virginia is gorgeous.

And unlike Maryland, DC and Virginia that allow you to marry your first cousin (ew), West Virginia bans cousin marriages so they are much less inbred than the DC area.

La Maison du Chocolat

And Bridgewater Chocolate, but only for their amazing toffees.

Do you have any research to back this up? What are the rates of inbreeding in the various jurisdictions?

For gifts:
Jacques Torres
Laderach
Godiva
Vosges

For snacking, I do like Dove chocolates, Trader Joe's chocolate bark and dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

I love Teuscher truffles too and have such great memories of buying them at the Rockefeller Center store. Thanks for bringing that memory back for me.

Also love La Maison du Chocolat (and remember buying them at the store under the Louvre, which maybe says something about how important chocolate is to me) especially the dark chocolate orange peels.
