Idk, we couldn't get past the terrible airplane noise when
we were househunting, so we crossed the area off our list.

Wow. Good to know about the airplane noise. Thanks. OP here.

FYI, don't know your commuting route but 50 is a NIGHTMARE even during non-rush hours.

I live in FFX- so dont know first hand. From what I hear the schools are OK to Good.

I think peer group in SR ( similar socio economic background, etc) has a positive impact on overall school experience.

Still, I would not trade that positive aspect for the commute, even to Tysons.

Frankly, I have not heard anyone ever complain about SR schools, so I assume they are pretty good.

Only 50% of Freedom High School (South Riding) kids achieve a score on their AP tests that gives them college credit. Not nearly as good as McLean and Madison, at 70% and 60%, respectively. You'll have a much better location and commute closer in, too.

OP, where are you and your DH commuting to? Route 50 is a disaster.

Let's put this in perspective.

A 50% pass rate is probably still among the top 3-5% of high schools in the country. Freedom's also Group AA, which may appeal if you prefer smaller high schools.

If DW wants to stay at home and DH is a mere mortal, it's a hell of a lot easier to do so in South Riding than in Vienna (and I say this as a resident of the latter).

Is there a move to do unto 50 (at least up through Route 28) what is being/has been done to 7 and 28? If you work at points west of Fair Lakes, it is at least tolerable. If you work further in, then yeah, I can see South Riding not working too well.
