Who actually buys all of the fresh seafood out of the case at Whole Foods?

I love Whole Foods and shop there like twice a week. Their seafood case is gorgeous and clean, with a massive selection, lots of varieties of whole fish. I honestly rarely see anyone actually buying anything outside of salmon filet once in a while. All of that fish, shrimp, oysters, etc. is super perishable once its in the case, right? So who is buying it?

I do. Sometimes I buy whole fish there. Mussels, oysters, scallops. They use a lot of the fish in their prepared foods section

I buy shrimp once or twice a week. Scallops whenever they're on sale.

Ha! I was just wondering this about the prepared foods section at Whole Foods as I stood there waiting for my deli meat to be sliced today.

It's A LOT of food. Do they sell that much?

I buy it. More in the summer when I grill a lot but some during this time of year.

I'm impressed if that many people are buying whole fish super regularly. Whole fish is so intimidating to me.

Their crab cakes are actually really good.

Are you referring to the prepared food in the cold case the deli workers have to get for you? It's only like $13 for a protein + two sides. It's actually incredibly cheap, especially if you get a seafood like salmon filet or shrimp -- and sometimes they have medium rare steak!

I've personally never bought any of the hot prepared food or salad in that self-serve area.

I went to a Harris Teeter once when they were closing up the prepared foods/salad bar. There was a ton of food there. An employee lined a shopping cart with a heavy duty garbage bag and methodically dumped every bin out.

We buy fish. I see a line there most times.

I guess it depends on where you live but in Arlington, where there’s a lot of Young single professionals, the prepared food case is very often depleted! I myself buy some of it so we have cooked salmon or chicken to put on salads for lunches during the week.

Every time I eat all the hot bar I get diarrhea! Never again.

I buy quite a bit of seafood from WF, more than just salmon. We buy shrimp, lobster tails, and all kinds of fish.

I buy the sea bass. It’s great!
