| Is there a private equivalent of one of the MCPS magnet MS? I have a kid who does ok socially, has an outside interest she does several times a week but not intensely, and is not into team sports at all. I would love for her to be with other kids who are also advanced and really interested in learning. She’s had classes like this in the past (ELC) and really blossomed. We would truly be looking for the academic piece and are not especially interested in a religious school. I do worry about social fit at some schools that seem very small. |
| You could create an advanced schedule at Pyle with higher level math and fast paced language classes. If she plays an instrument the music program is excellent. But unfortunately English, Science and Social Studies don’t have many opportunities for true enrichment across the middle schools. |
| Maybe Holton Arms. Post on private schools forum for that info. |
| Holton Arms |
| waiting it out until high school |
| You could move to W zone |
What forum do you think you’re in? And yes, I know threads can get moved by the admin, but this one has been in the private school forum since the first response. |
OP here and we definitely are not moving for reasons related to other kids. Holton Arms would be a real stretch for us financially but I doubt we would qualify for financial aid. Does anyone know if they would ever consider an off cycle applicant? We were thinking of giving the public a try and moving DD if it’s not working. I see we have already missed the admission deadline… |
All the schools will consider an off-cycle applicant if they have space. You’re in an in-between time where the application deadline has passed but acceptances haven’t gone out yet so they may not know what space they have, but they might also be willing to take a late application. Call and ask. |
