Any updates on "sexual allegation" at Alice Deal Middle School?

| Got an email from Deal where DS is in 8th grade, saying that an "allegation of sexual misconduct has recently been made against a staff member at Deal Middle School." Anyone got any updates/heard any news about this? I remember when this happened in 2019 (DS and DD were at Murch then), and am somewhat uncomfortable with the lack of communication from the school. Does anyone know anything about what happened/happening in the school about this now? |

We had only heard it was a math teacher. In February 2023, a charge of misdemeanor sexual abuse was filed against someone with the same name (and it’s not a common name) as someone listed on the school’s website as a current Deal math teacher. The police report said the complainant and the accused were coworkers at KIPP DC Valor PCS, and that the incident took place in July 2021. In April 2023 the accused pleaded guilty to the charge under a deferred sentencing agreement and the charge was dropped in early 2024 after they completed a diversion program.
This is all public record, anyone can look it up on the DC Courts website. How DCPS would allow this person to work in a public school is beyond the means of comprehension, even if the charge was dropped. There still was a guilty plea involved. I’m going to guess the local TV stations are already working on this story, and we’ll know more soon. |

I can't find any suggestion that John Gass taught at Deal pre-DCI. Certainly that's not what this email was referring to, since it referred present tense to a current staff member. |
