| Are there any good summer intensives or camps for this age and level of violin? I found Interlochen, but it looks like he's too advanced to be in the beginning level (waste of time and money playing with kids in Book 1) and not good enough to be in the advanced junior level. |

In a year or two, you could look at Blue Lake, which is a more modest but Midwest popular music camp similar to Interlochen. It starts at 5th grade. My kids liked it.
I do see a mention of Suzuki Family Camp. https://bluelake.org/ |

I have 2 around the same age, and locally we go to the GWSI Institute. Maybe not quite what you're looking for, but the same teachers and families come back each year and it's a really nice and friendly community. This year is at Kenmore Middle School

| Op - I totally neglected to mention that kid uses Suzuki books but not Suzuki Method[b]. We do all the Suzuki PIECES (some memorized, but only a few), along with several volumes of etudes. Does not play by ear, review previous Books, or do the tonalization exercises. From what i understand, Suzuki camps would require playing all 3 books and Book 4 pieces up to current piece FROM MEMORY... which I know would be too stressful for kid to try to do right now! |
| Philadelphia music festival has one and two week intensive sessions for ages 11 and older in the summer. Some campers are day campers while others board. Auditions are required, but you can do by video. The students are placed into ensembles by ability. |
Blue Lake is not Suzuki except for the special family camps. |
| Levine has summer camp placement and audition contacts for their summer camps. In our child's winds camp there were advanced students your child's age that practiced mostly with the older intensive group. Not sure if the strings camps are similarly simultaneously tracked. |
| Interlochen is actually perfect for a child like this. The Junior division has two levels of orchestras in its 2-week program -- one for the kids who are closer to beginner, and one for more advanced kids. The instructors audition everyone at the start, and then place each child into the ensemble that's most appropriate. My children have been going for years, and they love it! |
