Period tracker app

Anonymous
Looking for current recommendations for a period tracker app. Something simple, not too many features. Do they offer a reminder that it could be coming?

ADHD 12 year old who is new to this and struggles to remember to restock her locker/backpack.

The Apple health app is pretty good at this, I would make sure whatever you use it’s a privacy-first company

I would also recommend that you have her always be stocked so she can help anyone around her who has a period start

Frame it about helping others and it’ll be easier for her to remember and make sure it’s all stocked, then when hers shows up she is stocked anyway

Keep a small makeup bag in backpack stocked at all times. This is not as hard as it seems.

DD13 started period nearly 13, and it’s very irregular ( was 1-2 month apart, then recently was like every 1-2 weeks apart). She keeps pad in zip bag in her school backpack, and inner pocket of jacket, also the zipper part of lunch bag ( middle schoolers usually don’t have time to use restroom until lunch hour).

Op here - thanks. Yes, of course she does have a pouch at school that is supposed to contain supplies. She’s not used to restocking it, thinks it IS restocked even when I ask.

I would like her to start tracking it herself, and an app would hopefully send her a reminder in the days before so she can double check herself. She has severe ADHD and I’m trying to teach her strategies to set reminders for things, so an app is what I’m looking for advice on now.

OMG hell no.

What do you not understand about the current GOP?

Do not do this!!!!!!

How do you even not know that this is a horrifyingly bad idea?

Do not use this!
For God's sake how stupid are you?

I made my daughter delete her period tracking app when Roe was overturned. She now tracks it the same way I did, a paper calendar in her room. If you are married to the idea of an app, I suggest checking the planned parenthood website to see what apps store information somewhere else vs only on her phone.

You don't need a period app, you need a calendar or task app with a weekly reminder to restock her bag. Or just a weekly alarm in her phone clock.

That said, the Planned Parenthood app, Spot On, only lives on your phone: there is no account or data on the web. It has very limited features but it can send certain reminders.

Nice. Great job informing people ans convincing them to be on your side.

If you go with a non-app paper option (which I do recommend in These Times) there are lots of cute period tracking journals for sale on Etsy. I actually use one of those.

I realize that it doesn’t solve the reminder issue, but I agree with the poster above who said to teach her to stay stocked with supplies at all times, especially because it means she may be able to help others (which could even foster some nice connections during the difficult era of adolescence!).

Buy a cute little small zip pouch she can keep in her backpack with tampons, pads, and some of those hygienic wipes, and maybe a Dove chocolate or two.

This is a good article from Consumer Reports with their recommendations for private trackers: https://www.consumerreports.org/health/health-privacy/period-tracker-apps-privacy-a2278134145/

Previous poster who suggested you frame it as her being stocked to help others

I too have ADD, and this is why while I have an app suggestion I don’t think an app is the solution

As an ADD patient for decades trust me when I say that the greatest motivator is other people

Tell her that she should fulfill the role of being the girl who always has supplies for everyone and she will actually keep her stuff stocked up

A reminder app will simply send her a notification at a random time. She will look at it, think “oh yeah I need to do that” and promptly forget that she needs to stock up five seconds later

But if you tell her that others are relying on her? She will make sure she is always able to help others, they’re counting on her

My daughters and I all use an app that is called P tracker and has a flower logo.

Yea, I know the arguments about roe and whatnot, and if we get there we can stop tracking using the apps, but right now we aren’t there yet, and I appreciate the “period due in 2 days” notifications and so do my daughters.

I just use Apple Health. I have ADHD and restock at the end of one period for the next. That way I'm never caught without. I have an emergency panty liner and tampon in my makeup case that always goes with me, and a bigger makeup case with like four regular tampons, four super, and a bunch of liners and I take that when I need it.

My PMS tells me when my period is coming, and I have a day before the flood where I can see when I wipe after peeing that it'll be there tomorrow. So I don't need an app with a reminder.
