I know someone with an Associateβs Degree from a good community college who refers to herself as a first-generation college graduate.
I always thought one wasnβt technically a college graduate until earning a Bachelorβs Degree. Your thoughts?? |
| I think a college graduate is someone who gets a traditional four year degree from an accredited college or university. |
| no |
| Of course it is. What else would it be called? Btw you could have googled this. Same answer |
| No. But I wouldn't correct them. They are proud, rightfully so. Leave it alone. |
| Yes an associate degree is a legit college degree since the units completed toward it are actual college credits on your transcript. |
| As per the PP, I Googled it and sure enough it says yes, a college graduate. |
| I think when paired with "first generation" the answer is yes. And especially if it's the graduate who is using the phrase. |
| The watering down of the term "college graduate". |
| No. They have an associates. I wouldnβt consider them college graduates. |
|
Wow the responses here are very divided.
Which makes me think there is no actual βrightβ answer to this. Meaning there is no solid, concrete answer on this. Interesting. |
| 4 year degree is a college degree but agree let them be proud |
Not trying to be snarky but do you really have to be rude about this? Many questions on this forum can be googled, sometimes people just like a first-hand perspective. |
| She graduated with an associates degree. |
| Your friendβs logic about tracks with what Iβd expect from people getting AA degrees, ie that theyβre not secret geniuses who just have institutional impediments to getting a fulsome education. |
