Spirit Airlines bankruptcy question

Anonymous
Question for those that might know more - what happens if Spirit shuts down? Would tickets become overpriced paperweights? We are looking to go to Cancun for Spring Break (2 adults, 2 kids) and Spirit is almost $2200 cheaper than the next option from BWI (including bag free, paying for seat). We always carry our own water and snacks....

You will be able to get the charge refunded by your credit card company, since the service wasn't provided.

But generally you would be out of luck and forced to book with another airline at whatever fare is available at the time, assuming seats are available - not always the case at busy times like spring break. This is why airline possible bankruptcy is usually self-fulfilling, because people get scared to book with the airline and revenue continues to drop

Why would anyone take spirit? Most people are taking regular airlines and business or first class.

How are most flying business class, when most planes are 90% economy seats?

Dumb comment. We took Spirit once to Dallas. We paid an extra $50 each for larger seats up front, no middle seat. It was just like being on any other plane.

I was just looking at a travel insurance policy and they specifically said Spirit Airlines (among others) would not be covered since they are in bankruptcy.
