Will shingles vaccine impact my rotator cuff tendonitis?

Anonymous
I can only get the vaccine in my left arm, due to a prior breast surgery on my other side (risk of lymphedema). But I have rotator cuff tendonitis (has been gradually improving). Will the shot make it worse? I don’t mind temporary effects.

Thanks.

How would the vaccine permanently impact your tendonitis? They don't inject it into your tendon. It goes into muscle.

I had temporary muscle soreness. That was my only side effect.

You can get it administered in your upper thigh too.

The shingles vax is brutal. One of the worst we had. Joint pains all over. Not to say don't get it but don't freak. Thigh might be more reassuring for you but ask whoever is treating the shoulder.

It impacts everyone differently. I also had minor body aches for about 48 hours. Ibuprofen took care of that though. No other issues. It wasn’t brutal for me at all.

Everyone made the vaccine out to be a big deal but I had no issues with the first shot and manageable body aches with the second.

So I guess it’s luck of the draw as to whether it’s brutal or not.

Thank you. My pcp said it should be okay, but just wanted any first-hand experience. I’ll go to her office to get it, rather than a random cvs.

Is it worse than the covid shot? I got fever/aches for a couple days with that one.

Also - when I got the covid shots, they told me not to take Advil before or after. Is it the same with shingles shot?

It’s an individual experience. I had zero side effects with the covid shot and only minor aches with the 2nd shingles shot. YMMV

The data is inconclusive from what I've been able to determine. But the theory is you want your body to have an immune response. I err on the side of caution and never take anti inflammatories after vaccination. I have been hit hard by all my Covid shots so far. Fever, aches, pains. Same with the shingles shots. A friend felt nothing other than a sore arm muscle at injection site.

^^ Or before shots. But I rarely take anti inflammatories.

Did you take Tylenol?

I haven't had the shingles vaccine yet as I'm too close to my recent shingles episode but whatever aches and pain you have from the vaccine is better than the weeks of terrible pain from shingles!!

I have a strong reaction to the covid shot (fever, aches), but I sailed through my Shingles. My husband is the opposite of me in both vaccines. Who knows why we all react as we do!

Our pediatrician advised us not to pre-medicate as that seems to be the worst in terms of potential immune-blunting impacts. Obviously you’re not a kid but I’d think the same principles would apply.
