How would you all rank the following schools at the ECE level primarily, then from 1st-5th. Interested in any particular notes(heavy screen use/lack theirof, great pta, warm environment, fun curriculum etc.) on any or all as well. Thank you.
Ludlow School within School Peabody Burroughs YuYing LAMB ITDS DCB Stokes-Brookland |
| Interested as well.. along with Francis |
| You need to review your chances for LT and Peabody. Out of boundary is very unlikely. |
OP here. Yes, understandable. I'm curious how this communnity ranks these particular schools, as it may help inform the rankings of some others we're interested in as well. Appreciate the input. |
| why every DCI feeder except MV8? |
| I have never heard anyone say a bad word about SWS at the ECE level. True Reggio with heavy art focus. At higher grades, some begin to bemoan the lack of differentiation for high performers (its a feature, not a bug; principal will flat out tell you they won’t do it), but the level of instruction is solid. Lacking in afterschool options, PTA (which they have another name for) is comparatively uninvolved, surprisingly limited community events (perhaps because of prior point and because student body is becoming increasingly dispersed as sibling lottery preference no longer disproportionately Hill based). Vibe is fairly crunchy (low screen use, not allowed to celebrate Halloween/normal holidays) and surprisingly high on SAHMs/part time working moms (which are pretty uncommon at surrounding Hill schools). Long term (founding) art teacher is retiring and given her prominent influence on the school (great art classes, but also awkward over focus on racial justice issues), it will be interesting to see what gets shaken up. |
| Are you serious about language immersion? If not I would skip them. We are at one that you list. It is a lot of work. We are at MV8 and have been since it opened and are very happy. |
|
If you plan on staying in the city long term, you need to also consider middle school feed.
So if you are serious about languages, then all the language immersion charters in Brookland based on your preferred language. They all track to DCI with preference given. If not interested in languages, then whatever school has a feed to a good middle school. |
We were at MV8 and had a great experience. OP if you are considering, they have a shuttle from Eastern market area if you are in CH |
| Peabody is PK3-K, then it feeds to Watkins for 1-5… so feedback there depends on if you’re just looking for the early years or really through upper elementary, too. |
Meant to say not at one you list. |
| We're currently at a school near MV8.. I didnt realize it was so highly regarded.. Will check out an open house, but from the parent perspective.. is possible to provide some highlights of their program? |
|
No one will or should rank these for you.
You need to consider your educational priorities and location very heavily, neither of which we can suss out for you. I have heard good things and bad things about all of those schools. |
I didnt ask for anyone to rank them “for me”.. just to rank them through their own lenses. I’ve read various thread and there are differing opinions.. and every schools does the same thing differently.. so im curious of first hand perspectives. Appreciate your input. |
Ask the specific question then about the specific school you are researching and have heard various things about, but lumping them all into one thread won't get you much information that's helpful to you or to anyone else. |
