So I believe my son has 2 player cards.
1 from MSI Classic League with a team and 1 from EDP with another team Can his team that he plays with from MSI Classic use his player card and register him in travel tournaments? |
| Yes, because the EDP card is sanctified by the state, it can be used for any tournament. And, you should talk to the MSI coach/manager |
|
Yeah his edp card belonging to his main team which can be used anywhere. Got that.
But suppose the MSI classic team that he also plays for wants to enter a tournament? Can they use the player card they have for him? I’m trying to avoid asking his main team foe the edp card. |
No you can’t use one card for a team for another team. That card represents insurance for the player. The player card is owned by the club. |
Thanks for posting that - I know a lot of parents read stuff about "guesting" and bring up the "card" without knowing what it actually covers at all. Just keep this in mind if you just happen to get it from a team manager at a smaller club. Either your main club is OK or not not OK with you guesting, but going behind their back doesn't usually work out well. |
| So he already has two cards? The card he is playing EDP on has to be a MSYSA travel card. If MSI also has a card for him, I’m guessing it is a MSYSA “rec” player card. I would check that, but if the whole team has rec player cards, MSI would probably register for a tournament using those cards and the fact that he has a travel card wouldn’t show up anywhere. |
Thank you!!! This was the type of answer I was looking for. So his main EDP travel team has to be a MSYSA travel card. I’m going to check now what kind of card he has with his MSI classic team |
|
MSI doesn’t issue official cards for Classic teams (though, if you are playing Classic through a club like Brit Am or Juventus rather than a parent/volunteer lead team, that club may have issued him a USYS or US Club card. But MSI doesn’t issue either for Classic players, they just manage the league).
His EDP team should have issued him a USYS card and will use that to register him for tourneys. In GotSport, he is probably listed with MSI as a rec player and his EDP team as a travel player. (Source: my kid has double carded on an MSI Classic team and EDP team) Our parent run MSI Classic team has only been able to register for tourneys that also accept rec teams bc we can’t produce USYS/US Club cards. |
Side note — you should be able to log into GotSport and view your son’s roles — it will show what clubs/teams he is registered with and the type of role (rec, travel). |
| I’m stupid and realized I read the question backwards — yes, the MSI Classic team can use his USYS card from his EDP team to register him for a tourney. Just get a copy of the card from the EDP team; the MSI Classic team will include it along with whatever else they are providing as their cards when they submit their tourney docs. |

Hey guys,
I just got to look at the player card from his MSI Classic Team It is a USYS logo in the background with my sons phot on the right hand side then it says the following MEMBER PASS STATE: MSI CLASSIC League Name: XXXX Birthdate: XXXX Team:XXXX Season: XXXX ID:XXXX EXP:XXXX It doesn't say Rec or anything which makes me think this probably can be used for EDP tournaments |
I'm still warning you if you do this behind your EDP club's back it can backfire. Not always, but please keep it in mind. |
I appreciate the warning but is it really going behind another teams back when you paid almost 3K? You have attended every practice and played in all of their games? My son also happens to be a good player who if anything has helped build their program? What business is that of theirs if my son decides to play in a tournament if his main team has nothing going on during the weekend? Anyhow, I already told them he plays for an MSI Classic team but that their practices and games take precedent. I'm not going to ask for their blessing for my son to play soccer. But I do appreciate your warning. If they have a problem we can leave. |
They shouldn't care, but the easiest thing would be to ask them directly which you clearly don't want to do. I'm just warning you of the downsides. I hope it works for you honestly as the clubs shouldn't have that much control and I'm very much on your side. |
Now that you mentioned it….what are the downsides? Lack of playing time or some other revenge tactics? |
