Good schools with friendly and not snobby high schoolers...

...that also aren't dangerous/worrisome to live near? Or am I just hoping for something that doesn't exist?

From what I hear, Madison is a good high school with some affluent kids but not nearly what you might see at Langley.

yep. gotta second this.
Weird cuz we're closer to Madison in distance, but DC's pyramid calls for attendance at Oakton. Some there are "snobby" but that's not the real problem.

That's kind of a loaded question, isn't it? If we gave you the name of a high school, and it's wasn't good enough for you, wouldn't that make you a snobby parent?

I get the impresion Langley might freak you out, but there's really no other school like it (in terms of the lack of economic diversity of the student body) in NoVa.

Well, PP, considering that I went to Langley, no, I don't want my kids to go there.

Unfortunately, I think it's something that doesn't exist. In any school anywhere, there will be enough differentiators among kids to have some be snobby or cliquish or bitchy or whatever term you want to use. The "popular clique" occurs at high income, low income, racially/economically diverse or completely homogenous schools.

Can you elaborate on why you wouldn't want your kids to go to Langley? We have a while to go before hs but would like some insight.

It's more pronounced at high-income schools with little diversity. The mean girls and frat boys are inhibited at least a little bit when the reason other kids don't have all the right clothes and gear is that they just can't afford them.

My husband and I both attended Langley, and we made sure that we bought in the Langley cluster so that dd can go there too.
