| I need a new pants suit for an interview with a conservative finance industry employer … willing to spend more for an upgrade from Ann Taylor (and frankly just don’t want any more Ann Taylor) but I have limited energy for shopping. What would be the best department store for this? Nordstroms, Macys, Bloomingdale’s, something else? |
Also to add … my sizing is weird so I need a big selection, which I why I am thinking a department store instead of a brand store. I typically need to try on 4-5 pairs of pants before I can find one that fits. My short pears know what I mean! |
| Bloomingdale’s. Try Reiss, Hobbs, and Theory. |
| Nordstrom or Bloomingdake's. Be prepared to pay a lot but do so because a well-fitting suit that flatters you and looks professional is worth the money. |

Saks. Nordstrom. If they’re as conservative as you’re suggesting, Brooks Brothers might also be a good option.
When it comes to fit, while a wide selection is good, tailoring is key. |
Not Brooks Brothers the materials are just horrible right now. Stick with Department stores higher end ones. |
| Which is more expensive - Nordstrom or Bloomingdale’s? |
| Macys. Nordstrom was terrible the last time I went. They had very little in store. |

Macy's will not be an upgrade from Ann Taylor. Nordstrom will be an upgrade, but as a PP pointed out, they don't have much. Bloomingdale's is definitely an upgrade, but it will probably be a significant enough upgrade that you could have sticker shock if you aren't ready for it.
With "limited energy for shopping" ... which I totally get ... you might start with the free personal shoppers at Nordstrom. You make an appointment, show up, and they have a fitting room ready to go with everything they've got all ready for you to try on. The downside to this, or, at least what happened to me, was that I picked something, and it was way over the budget I'd given them. So be careful about that. |
Generally speaking, Bloomingdale's. But with suits there will probably be some overlap in price. |
| Bloomingdale's has a good selection, but tailoring is your friend. They do have in house tailoring from my understanding. |
Bloomingdales |
Nordstrom has in-house tailoring as well. |
| Brooks Brothers |
| If you are willing to go to the outlets, Lafayette 148, Boss and Theory at national harbor. |
