I’m a 40 something mother who, amidst this terrible national moment, is really craving to find my spiritual home with a strong community rooted in faith, progressive values, love of community, service, and mutual aid.
Eventually I might be interested to bring my DH and kids along. But for now, looking to start attending Sunday services and meet others. Any recommendations? I live near Bethesda but am happy to drive up to 30 minutes in any direction. |
| I think you'll have to try around for fit but PCUSA or UCC might be a place to start. For me it really depends on the individual pastor. My experience with UMC has been a mixed bag based on the pastor. |
| St Columba’s in Tenleytown! |
| Unitarian Universalist on River Road in bethesda |
As far as I know, St Columba's Episcopal and River Road Unitarian fit the bill regarding politics. They both have good children's programs. The Episcopalians pay at least lip service to Christianity, sing Christian music and have a Mass. River Road is more open, like all Unitarian churches. |

Try St. Luke's Episcopal.

Definitely not St. Columba’s! Our family attended once and will never go back. The parishioners weren’t welcoming and the church is not racially or ethnically diverse. |
In my experience, St. Columba's has been overly welcoming to racially and ethnically diverse people - perhaps because there are so few of them. |
