Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
My son is almost 4 months, just curious what other moms/babys schedules are? It is so hard to keep it the same everyday, especially on the weekends. Thanks!
My son is almost 4 mo. old and doesn't have a daytime schedule at all. You are right, its hard. Sometimes he seems to take no naps all day and other times sleeps for hours. He also is still eating 3 times every night which is getting very hard. My older child had a schedule by this stage but I guess they are all different.
Mine is almost 4 months. I have absolutely no schedule, but the idea of implementing one is always in the back of my mind. The problem is I can't even manage to give him a bath at the same general time every day (or every day for that matter). I can only feed him when he's hungry as he will spit out the bottle when he's not, and he's never hungry at the same time every day. Napping is the same. Willy nilly. I think I am too disorganized for a schedule, and I know I will pay for it down the road.
DD's schedule, such as it is, is that we get up between 7 and 8. She sometimes will take a morning nap around 9 or 10, sometimes she fights it off and either sleeps for a very short period or not at all. And then everything after that is up in the air until bedtime, which is between 7 and 8. The only consistent thing is that she eats about every 4 hours. Even her nighttime sleep is pretty erratic at this point. Sometimes she only wakes up once or twice and is quick to settle back to sleep with either the pacifier or a feeding, and other nights she is up several times until I finally give up and bring her into bed with me to sleep on my chest. Sometimes even that doesn't work (sigh). I'm still home with her on maternity leave, so I'm hoping things start to even out when she starts daycare and reaches the 6-mo mark.
DS gets up between 6:30 and 8:30 (weekends - we wake him up to go to daycare around 7 during the week). He eats around 7:30, 10:30, 1:30, 4:30, and 7:30 each day (nursed at the morning and evening feeds; EBM + some formula if necessary at the others during the week). His morning nap is usually pretty good - starts between 9 and 10:30 and can go up to 2 hours. The rest of the day is more up in the air - sometimes he'll take a good afternoon nap, sometimes nothing until bed. His bedtime is usually between 7:30 and 8:30. Some nights he sleeps through, sometimes he's up twice. Typically, he's up once, around 4:30 am for a diaper change and quick nursing session.
OP here, thanks for all the responses. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that doesn't have a set schedule. It is much better than when he was a newborn, but I would love more consistency. Right when I think we are on to something, it changes. Part of being a parent I guess. Thanks again.

Okay, I have a four month old, and we have somewhat of a schedule, simply because I have older kids as well. Because of their preschool schedule, the baby is up to be out the door no later than 8:30, sometimes earlier. I drop off the older kids, return home and put the baby down for morning nap around 9:30. Baby sleeps for an hour or two, is up and we either run errands or hang out, depending on how long the nap was. Return to preschool to pick up at noon. Lunch, and then baby is put down for another nap, sleeps until around 3 or 4, up for another period of time and might take another late afternoon nap. Bedtime is between 7:30 and 8, and then the cycle begins the next day.

Glad to here I'm not the only one with a rigid schedule. On the 3 days my son (4.5 mos) goes to daycare, we're up between 6 and 6:30 to nurse - if it's too early, he'll take an hour nap while I get ready, otherwise it's off to daycare. While at daycare he usually naps twice (regardless of whether he already napped at home), but it's completely random - sometimes it's catnaps, sometimes good naps. He gets 4 bottles of EBM there. He's picked up at 5:30 and depending on when he's had his last bottle is either nursed immediately or we go for a walk/play for a bit first. After nursing it's time for pj's, a story, and bed - usually between 7:30-8:30. Thankfully he sleeps thru til the a.m.
On the days he's home with me, all bets are off and we live by his whims - usually a morning and afternoon nap and ~5 nursings, but the time varies. I figured giving him with unstructured days he'd settle into his own schedule, so we'll see! |
