I think you might enjoy Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle Hotel. Go for happy hour but get there early as it fills up fast. Very stylish, very old school NYC.

I like the bar in Grand central station, the campbell bar. beautiful 1920's architecture

Don't be mean. It's a classic of sorts and still vibrant and the food is good . . . the same with Odeon and Pastis.

+1 for the Campbell Bar in Grand Central
These are not trendy and DCUM will scorn but some classics:
When we are out walking around staying in midtown. We like to stop for some glasses of champagne at the Palace.
The Waldorf Astoria has been renovated. The clock lobby and Peacock Bar are classic

At the very least, very nice restrooms.
