Operating budget hearing

Is anyone watching? Anything notable from commenters, Board members, or MCPS?

Every time people tried to ask about class sizes, Taylor kept saying that he would explain it all on January 29 and basically refused to answer questions.

And yet, he put $2 million in the budget request for the regional programming initiative that the board hasn't even approved. The BOE asked for data, e.g., transportation, last summer. Taylor told them they would get the data in March 2026, the month they are scheduled to vote on the regional programs/boundary changes. Let's see how this goes.

Meanwhile, the threadbare safety net in this school district - beginning with Title 1 schools, dismantling of clinical supervision of special education programming, loss of family engagement specialists, and more - is growing thinner and thinner.

He's going to pretend it's not really a class size increase as long as he can, then unveil the truth on Thursday January 29th knowing that any outrage will get totally drowned out by the release of the new boundaries the following week.

I thought boundaries were coming out in March. I can't keep up.

The final vote by the Board to make it official is in March but the superintendent's recommendation (which will likely be very close to if not exactly what ends up getting adopted) comes out February 5th.
