OK honey I was wrong!

Anonymous
About 7 years ago my husband made a large, for us, investment in a high tech start up without telling me. Admittedly if it went it zero it would not have changed our lives. But I was unhappy with him at the time but I quickly got over it. Eventually the company went public but the stock quickly went down and I suggested he sell it as we’d make a decent return. He said he wanted to stay in and I figured he was just being stubborn but he’s also a very smart guy. Jump ahead 3 years and the stock is now worth about 30 times his original investment. I didn’t know this until he told me on Christmas. Over the three years we had never discussed it. So I said honey I was wrong and he said there is always a first time!

Aw, that’s cute! Happy ending, luckily for you both!

How much was it worth then? How much is it worth now?

Not cute for a spouse to make financial decisions without talking to the other spouse! I'm glad it worked out for you but it was handled poorly.

???
We both invest money in our own investment accounts. Occasionally I check to make sure as a couple were diversified, but I’d never tell DH he cannot invest in something. Then again we both make like 400k and have PhDs - so there’s that

I’m not sure $400k (even each) is the flex you think it is here (sorry), nor are having PhDs. Are PhDs known for investment prowess?

Okay OP, but what are you actually here for… validation, vengeance ideas, or to tell us the ticker symbol?

Because this is *peak* DCUM humblebrag and I respect the craft.

“There is always a first time”??

Great. I hope his first time seeing you buy something expensive without telling him is also magical.

It was wrong for you to start this thread OP, so I guess that makes 2 wrongs in one day. Do better tomorrow.

Gosh only $400K each? That sounds tough, have you guys applied for the various forms of assistance such as free meals at the schools?

Yikes. Glad the investment worked out for you but seems like you have a lot going on with your husband. Good luck with everything, OP.
