I have an incredibly dumb question.
My lean 7 year old has been wearing jammers, but he sees many older kids wear briefs. He begged me for them over the summer because “the big kids look so cool in them” and I said maybe next year. I didn’t see a single 8 and under in briefs over the season. If he wants them this year, I’m going to say yes …… but are they going to fall off? They just don’t seem as sturdy/supportive as jammers? Especially with a lean body type I’m worried he doesn’t have anything to help hold them up! |

If they fit properly they should not fall off and are very sturdy.
While most younger kids don't wear them we definitely have some younger kids on our summer team that wear them. |

Right size they will fit and usually better than jammers. Bonus because the fit is better it helps with time drops.
We have a number of little boys who wear them to be like the big boys. |
| Briefs definitely fit better than jammers on little guys. We have a couple kids who wear them (maybe two, lol) none of the 8 & unders care what anyone of the other kids are wearing. |
| Get him briefs for the summer! He can try them out. It is especially fun to swim an age group relay with the older boys when you're all in briefs. (At least my boys found this to be an amazing experience.) |
| Sorry, PP here. Hit send too soon. One of my swimmers is the long/skinny type. He liked briefs better because he didn't have to deal with getting the jammer leg fit. |
| All of the littles who wear them do it to be like the big boys. DS never wanted to, but his BFF did. Even as a now 'big kid' DS has never expressed interest in briefs. |
| Thanks all, this was helpful! |
