What were your kids' favorite 8th grade electives?

DD is starting to explore these for next year and isn't sure what to take - this is at Carson.

All of my kids took a World Language in 8th grade. Their other elective spot was different depending on which kid it was. Two took Orchestra, one took Journalism, and one took Theater.

Ds has been taking a language and Engineering 3. He loves Engineering not as much a fan of the langauge but doing well with it.

Different MS but both loved FACS and the cooking in it. DD liked theater. DS liked engineering. I think it was more because of the theater and engineering teachers, who were their favorites.

Engineering and SGA

I was skeptical about SGA, but it’s been great!

My kid is worried that they won't do well in 8th grade FACS because they didn't take 7th grade FACS. Are they the same? Do they build on each other?

*I know this is a ridiculous concern because it's basically home economics, but I want to tell them no.

Both my Carson kids loved the engineering and computer classes. For the other elective one took languages the other took facs and absolutely loves it. He’s a straight A stem kid but the happiness he gets from making pretzels at school will make any parent smile. I thought it was stupid but he loves it and even knows how to sew now. My kid at Franklin also liked facs- it’s just a fun class for kids.

There is FACS 1 and FACS 2. You can take FACS 1 in 7th or 8th. FACS 2 does build on FACS 1. Your kid will take FACS 1.
