Any word on fourth grade at Holton Stoneridge + NCS

We are applying to these three schools for 4th. Have people heard anything about the rising 4th grades - how Beauvoir ED went (how many spots NCS likely has left), how many spots Stoneridge and Holton have available since it is not an entry year? We met lots of SR/HA 4th grade applicants at the Gator Gathering and Holton's coffee event in the fall.

Beauvoir discourages everyone from talking about admissions, but it sounds like almost all of the girls who applied early got in. That is probably around 25-30 girls, with another few who opted out of ED for some reason or another but might still go. That would leave between 15-20 spots for non-Beauvoir girls at NCS.

No idea about Holton and Stone Ridge.

NCS admissions team indicated slightly lower numbers - said it ranges from 10 to 15 non-Beauvoir girls depending on the year. I heard the same thing about most of the Beauvoir crew getting in, so my best uninformed guess is 10-12 this year.

Beauvoir typically sends about 25-30 with closer to 30 these days so I would say about 15 spots left would be my guess. NCS is a top choice for most coming from BVR.

The current Holton 3rd grade has 30 girls (in two classes) in it so it will 100% depend on what they decide to do for the 4th grade next year. If they decide to add a third class, they will add another 15ish girls. If they don't, they will admit almost zero because the class is full.

I have heard that they are leaning towards adding a third 4th grade class because their application number are astronomical this year for lower school. But TBD.

FWIW -- the girls that enter in 4th at NCS that didn't go to BVR tend to have a really hard time breaking into the social circles. The vast majority of those girls have been going to school together since PK. I sort of hate how they do it and think 4th grade should be a lot bigger so that the new girls don't feel so singles out.

I joined NCS in seventh when seventh was a main entry year rather than sixth being one as well. That Beauvoir lifer dynamic existed all through high school. But joining at fourth is easier than joining at seventh. I think ninth is actually better than seventh because girls are often so mean in seventh and eighth.

I think private high schools that start at ninth would be so much better, but they are rare unless you are ok with boarding.

I don’t think there would ever be 4 classes in 5th grade. There are currently two 4th grades and two 3rd grades. I think there will potentially be 3 4th grades and 3 5th grades next year.

Wish Holton would be more definitive about this. Zero versus 12-15 is quite a difference.

Depends on the class I suppose. My daughter went to Beauvoir and became friends with all of the new girls that came in 4th. Her best friends to this day are still the non-Beauvoir girls.
