How much more do you all pay?

$500/6 months. She has a 2015 Honda.

Nothing until they get their license. After that, it's a lot.

I think I paid an arm. And maybe a kidney.

A lot. I currently have three boys between the ages of 16 and 21. They have raised rates a lot in the past few years.

Our kids are on our existing Honda vehicles — we did not add a separate car for them.

When my daughter went away to college, I changed her status to “away at school without a car,” so she remained covered but that change should have reduced our premium. At the same time, I added my son after he received his full license at 16+.

Even with the technical reduction for my daughter, our insurance still went up by about $2,000 for the year. Based on the stories I’ve heard about how some 16-year-old boys drive, I understand why.

My DS drives my second car. It’s a 2016 Corolla. He’s 20, no tickets or accidents. He pays approximately $2k per year.

Our insurer gives us a discount for our daughter's straight A grades. Mentioning in here in case anyone here wants to look into similar.

My 17 yo son will get his license soon. We called for quotes to add him as a licensed driver on our 2023 Hyundai. One place told us $5,000 for a year. Geico came in lowest at $240 more a month. That's after a $200/every 6 months good student discount. They said the rates will be high for the first three years.

Who is the insurer?

My 19 year old son drives his 2010 Accord a whopping 3k miles a year and pays $1,500/yr, which includes a $300 good student discount.

Depends on the value of the car. We have two teens in two different states with different cars associated. One was $2k a year, the other was $400 a year.

2013 Hyundai- $732/6 months with good student discount & drivers ed.
That’s for full coverage with a $500 deductible.
Bodily Injury - $ 100,000/$300,000 per person/per accident
Property Damage - $ 50,000 per accident
Plus rental coverage.
It would be substantially less if we did liability only and decreased our coverage.

Need more context on the responses to this thread. Such as: amount of liability coverage, amount of comprehensive, deductibles for collision and comprehensive, number of drivers, types of car(s), where are they garaged, etc.

Otherwise, the responses are meaningless.
