Both my kids take musical theatre classes (acting, singing, dancing). We are moving to the area and need recs for excellent programs/conservatories. They are soooo unhappy about the move and good theatre prospects are the only thing that is making them somewhat okay right now, so I need to find a good program to put them in ASAP!
One is elementary age and one is HS age. Thanks so much. |
| Where are you moving in area |
| The best programs for high schoolers are audition only. YAA is excellent if you are in MD or DC or the Young Performer program at Signature Theatre if in VA. Maybe Adventure Theatre for your elementary student? My child did a good amount of professional theater in the DC area when he was younger and there are opportunities for your younger child to audition for professional shows here. |
Loudoun co but on the border with Fairfax co -OP |
| For your high schooler, you may be close enough for summer stage at Westfield HS. |
| YAA |
|
You are really far for YAA. When are you moving? YAA does an amazing residential summer camp on the campus of UMD that your highschooler might love.
Let me think some more about options out by you. |
| YAA seems to be the only game in town, but it's a good one. |
| NextStop in Herndon if you are in Sterling, Not Just Dance in Chantilly if you are in Aldie. |
Both of these would be close to us. Thanks! Will look into both. Moving next month. Anything out in Loudoun co? -OP |
| For kids who have talent and are serious about it, I would go into DC. Studio Conservatory and Theatre Lab are both good options. I have taken classes at both, and can recommend both. Theatre Lab is a little more fun in tone, Studio is more serious. |
