| Is it just me, or is it really hard to get into camp this year? I got waitlisted everywhere last year (Holton, Landon, Head First, etc) because I didn’t know sign ups were 6-7 months before summer! I was prepared this time, but I just feel like it’s so stressful to get into camp! |
| actually I'm having an easier time than last year. specifically one of the camps moved back to jan from dec, and it's still not sold out. was sold out this time last year. |
| I think camps are easier to book this year for those non city or non county ones. Economy is not good maybe, so some pricier camps are still available. |
|
I think it depends on the camp. Now that RTO is fully back, camps with longer days and/or buses seem to be in demand.

Camp registration in this area has always been a combination of the Hunger Games and Tetris. I was online yesterday right at the time a certain camp registration opened. They had a queue mechanism in place and my kid is waitlisted. It was nuts. I guess I needed to be online 15 minutes before the registration opened.
That said, I noticed that many of the Calleva sessions are already full for the returning kids. My kid has gone for 2 years and I remember the first year I signed him up, I was online ready to click as soon as the clock struck noon (or whatever time it actually opened) |
For cavella, I notice that rock climbing and fishing camps for many weeks are fun for returning kids. I register the second I am able to login. Next popular ones are sailing and some adventure camps with overnight. |
Full and waitlisted |
| We are waitlisted everywhere this year in the Bethesda / Whitman area. All these private school camps are so hard to get into! Landon’s camp site crashed during pre-registration today… |
| Everyone already knows they are RTO unlike last year when it was a question mark and prior years when there was more WFH |
Yes, this time last year was hard to know if I’d be employed come summer or what my hours would be. This year I have hopefully more clarity, but who knows? Have noticed some camps have gone to a no refunds no matter what policy (vs most of them letting you off with a portion of the fee if you cancel by May). Not sure if that’s new or not. |
| I also notice the prices have increased a lot for many private camps in the area. |
Yea definitely. Some that are nonprofits have lost grants and that's part of it. Donations are also down for a lot of places due to the economy, uncertainty, competing causes, etc. |
| I noticed that prices have gone up this year too. |
| Several camps at Good Counsel went FAST this morning. I know multiple people who did not get the one they wanted. I wonder if anyone gets into the culinary camps besides GC students who get early sign up. |
