I think this is the 4th nonstop destination to Asia from Dulles, always nice to have more options. Importantly, first to SE Asia since the Cathay flight to Hong Kong stopped after Covid.

| More than four flights currently to Asia- Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Amman, Riyadh, and Jeddah. |
Yeah fair. My mental map sees the Middle East as a separate region, although of course it's in Asia. |
Technically Doha, UAE, Jordan, Qatar are in Asia, but parts of Western Asia kind of feel like a separate continent . |
| Awww, I love EVA Air. In 2012, I got to fly on their Hello Kitty flight from Tokyo to Taipei. |
which means there's no market to support this route after COVID. would love to see EVA proves it wrong (worked for them eons ago) but have my doubts if DMV has big enough potential to sustain it long term, especially with the direction local economy is going. |
And Tel Aviv |
Cathay had really big problems once things started to open up post-covid because of the Chinese government crackdown, both on them directly and on Hong Kong generally. They have still not gotten their network back up to full operations. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/29/business/cathay-pacific-hong-kong.html?unlocked_article_code=1.D1A.NVrt.rhHS-eBhJ7r5&smid=url-share |
I work in the travel industry. Leisure travel has pretty much recovered since Covid, around 2022 or 2023. It should work out for them, but it’s relatively easy to change routes. |
…but 2026 is shaping up to be “interesting.” I don’t mean to make things political, but world order could be shaken up soon. Hope I’m wrong. |

Eva will fly non-stop IAD-TPE only 4 days each week. It is not a daily flight. Probably there is enough demand for that frequency.
Also, EVA serves Singapore, Saigon, and Hanoi - any of which would be one stop connecting in TPE. |
|
EVA's in-flight food is a whole lot better than United -- in any cabin.
If flying EVA in business class, Polaris lounge might even be open since EVA is *A. |
Yes it's a.one stop flight to everywhere else in SE Asia, more direct than going through Japan or South Korea. It's not just about enough traffic to Taiwan, and also connects to United's network at Dulles. Also.note the strength of the tech industry in Taiwan and now in the DC region. |
|
Anyone know exactly when it starts?
Or which days of the week there will be IAD departures? |
Doesn't look like they have loaded the flights into booking systems yet, and the announcement didn't have specific dates. |
